European Society for Photobiology
- Photobiology is the science studying the effects on biological systems of non-ionizing radiation – specifically ultraviolet, visible and infrared radiation, either from sunlight or from artificial sources . This transdisciplinary field encompasses scientific, technological and medical aspects, and impacts the civil society, through dealing with light-driven processes related to, for instance, environmental safety, climate change, solar energy, crop production, disease diagnosis and treatment using light.
- The ESP missions: to co-ordinate and promote all aspects of Photobiology research, education and technology by bringing together the various stakeholders to catalyse developments, disseminate and exchange knowledge and educate the next generation of scientists and the general public in all aspects of Photobiology.
- ESP means: a biennial Congress; the accredited journal Photochemical & Photobiological Sciences and related book series; a biennial postgraduate Photobiology School; fellowships for students and postdoctoral scholars; awards for outstanding young researchers; medals for excellent careers in Photobiology.
